Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (VA DPOR) and Merit have partnered together to provide digital copies of licenses in the Commonwealth.
Digital licenses available on Merit are approved legal representations of DPOR licenses and should be treated and accepted as such, per Paragraph D of Item 119 of the 2018-2020 Appropriations Act as legislated in the 2019 Session of the Virginia General Assembly.
How does it work?
- DPOR issues individual digital licenses to all licensed professionals with registered email addresses.*
- Professionals receive an email from DPOR via Merit, which gives them access to their digital licenses on their new Merit profile. Professionals can also centrally manage all of their industry credentials, such as training and memberships from participating organizations.
- Professionals can share their digital licenses/credentials with orgs and individuals through the many different verification methods available.
*Email address on file with DPOR must be unique, belong to the license holder, and not a general address such as info@xyz.com
